Sean Kearney is the new basketball coach at Holy Cross. The former Notre Dame assistant was named Thursday to succeed Ralph Willard, who resigned last month after 10 seasons to become Rick Pitino’s associate head coach at Louisville.

After a frantic day that had Kansas fans fretting they might lose a prized recruit, Xavier Henry texted a local radio station late Tuesday night saying he decided to stay with the Jayhawks. Drew Gordon of UCLA won’t require surgery on the partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee that he injured during tryouts for the U.S. team in the under-19 world basketball championships. The sophomore forward had an MRI exam Thursday that showed the injury is minor, a team spokesman said. After a week of rest, Gordon will begin rehabilitation. He was hurt Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo. Last season, Gordon averaged 3.6 points and 3.
