Sean Kearney is the new basketball coach at Holy Cross. The former Notre Dame assistant was named Thursday to succeed Ralph Willard, who resigned last month after 10 seasons to become Rick Pitino’s associate head coach at Louisville.

After a frantic day that had Kansas fans fretting they might lose a prized recruit, Xavier Henry texted a local radio station late Tuesday night saying he decided to stay with the Jayhawks. Earlier, the father of Xavier and his brother, C.J. Henry, said there would be a family meeting on Tuesday and that the two might not play at Kansas, after all.

Ex-Duke basketball player Elliot Williams says he'll transfer to the University of Memphis. Williams, a rising sophomore guard, was granted his release Wednesday from Duke because his mom is sick. He told The Commercial-Appeal on Saturday that he's planning to transfer to Memphis, in his hometown, because being closer to his family is the most important thing.

Drew Gordon of UCLA won’t require surgery on the partially torn patellar tendon in his right knee that he injured during tryouts for the U.S. team in the under-19 world basketball championships. The sophomore forward had an MRI exam Thursday that showed the injury is minor, a team spokesman said. After a week of rest, Gordon will begin rehabilitation. He was hurt Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colo. Last season, Gordon averaged 3.6 points and 3.
