Seton Hall delivered an overdue statement win for Bobby Gonzalez, so now the time is right for his wife to go for the automatic birth. “Now that we beat Virginia, I’m going to tell her it’s OK for to have a baby,” Gonzalez said, chuckling. Gonzalez’s wife is due to give birth to the couple’s first child any day now and contingency plans were made in case he had to bolt Philadelphia.
No. 9 Washington St. stifles MVSU 71-26 (AP)
Even by the standards established at No. 9 Washington State in recent years by coaches Dick and Tony Bennett, Saturday’s win was something else. The Cougars beat overmatched Mississippi Valley State 71-26, the fewest points they have given up in a game since the Truman administration. Washington State (5-0) dominated every aspect of the game, which was not in doubt after the opening minutes.
Xavier dominates No. 8 Indiana 80-65 (AP)
Eric Gordon’s soaring act never got off the ground, and Indiana stayed down with him. For that, Xavier can thank Stanley Burrell. And C.J. Anderson and B.J. Raymond. Burrell contained Gordon, Anderson and Raymond scored 19 points apiece, and Xavier handed the eighth-ranked Hoosiers their first loss, beating them 80-65 in the final of the Chicago Invitational Challenge on Saturday night.

Clemson runs past Gardner-Webb 96-67 (AP)
Gardner-Webb coach Rick Scruggs gave Clemson high praise. He said No. 24 Clemson is the best team he’s seen this season after the Tigers’ 96-67 victory Saturday over his Bulldogs, who have already beaten Kentucky and lost to Oklahoma and Connecticut. “We’ve already played a pretty tough schedule,” Scruggs said.
