Gio Ponti wins Belmont’s Man o’ War
Gio Ponti continued his dominance of major turf stakes Saturday, rallying to beat Musketier by 1 3/4 lengths in the $500,000 Man o’ War at Belmont Park. It was the third straight Grade 1 triumph for the 4-year-old trained by Christophe Clement. “It just confirms that at the moment, I’m afraid, he’s got to be the leader of the turf division,” Clement said. Gio Ponti was wide throughout the race with Ramon Dominguez aboard.
