S.S. Belle beats Are We Dreamin to take Big A feature (AP)
S.S. Belle set the pace and held on for a three-quarter length victory over Are We Dreamin in the $53,000 allowance feature for fillies and mares at Aqueduct on Thursday. S.S. Belle covered the six furlongs in 1:12.41 on a muddy track. Eibar Coa was aboard for trainer Bruce Levine as the 4-year-old earned her fifth win in 23 starts and paid $7.20, $4.90 and $3.50.
Johnny Eves holds on to win Malibu Stakes at Santa Anita (AP)
Johnny Eves took the lead on the turn for home and held on Wednesday to win the $250,000 Malibu Stakes on the first day of the Santa Anita meeting. David Flores, whose four riding victories included a sweep of the three stakes races on the card, had 11-1 shot Johnny Eves a length in front of Carrilero at the finish of the 7-furlong race for 3-year-olds.
