Haywood needs wrist surgery; Jamison’s knee OK
Wizards center Brendan Haywood needs surgery for a torn ligament in his right wrist. Forward Antawn Jamison has a bruised right knee and is expected to be ready for the start of the regular season.

Barnes’ 21 points lead Suns past Jazz (AP)

Matt Barnes scored 21 points and Alando Tucker added 19 as the Phoenix Suns beat the Utah Jazz 96-89 on Thursday night. The Suns, who didn’t make a 3-pointer in their opening loss to Atlanta on Wednesday, went 9-of-21 from beyond the arc against Utah (1-1) and didn’t trail after the opening minutes of the first quarter.


Report: Arthur’s grade-changing probe re-opened
The Dallas Independent School District has re-opened an investigation into alleged improper grade changes for former star basketball player Darrell Arthur at South Oak Cliff High School, WFAA, the ABC affiliate in Dallas reported.
