Regarding Browns running back Jerome Harrison, general manager Tom Heckert had this to say, “It’s a projection, he did a heck of a job at the end of the season, but whether a guy like Jerome can carry the ball that much throughout the whole season, that’s a little difficult to say. But at least he proved that he can play in the league. It was unknown until this year, so I think he did himself a favor and we think he’s a good player.” Source:The Plain Dealer
Count Jerome Bettis among those who applauded when Steelers president Art Rooney II said the team must place more of an emphasis on running the ball next season. “I think it’s great that they have made that adjustment and said ‘We’ve got to run the football more, I don’t think that they’re that far off. You’ve already got a dynamic passing game, if you can get the running game even close then you’ve got an incredible football team.” Bettis said. Source:Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Larry Coyer is the Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator but in 2007, Coyer was the assistant head coach/defensive line coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and worked with Gaines Adams, whom the Bucs selected in the first round of that year’s draft. “It’s very sad for me to see what people think and what really happens are two different things, this guy was a worker. He was the victim of being a, ‘Top draft choice’, what Gaines Adams needed was just reps and time, it’s a tragedy, his smile would light up a room, Gaines was an old country southern boy and that guy was going to be a great player.” Coyer said.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty inched closer Wednesday to becoming a pivotal player in the Minnesota Vikings stadium debate, suggesting that state lottery money and other means could help publicly finance the controversial project. Pawlenty, whose office has taken a more active role in exploring funding options, said in a radio interview that the state could use proceeds from a new state lottery game to generate an estimated $12 million annually for a stadium. While Pawlenty said he was not specifically proposing such a funding plan, he said lottery funds could be part of a public subsidy package that would generate the $29 million to $42 million annually that team officials say would be needed for a stadium.
With Kurt Warner’s retirement from the NFL last week, the starting quarterback job in Arizona could land in the hands of former Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart. New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush, a former college teammate of Leinart’s at Southern California, has already called Leinart to wish him well. “I told him it’s time to go to work, he’s capable of being a great quarterback, he’s more than ready.” Bush said Tuesday at Super Bowl media day.
