Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was arrested in Florida on Sunday night, police told TMZ.com. The site reports that police allege Taylor left the scene of an accident in Dade County. He was taken into custody at 9:57 p.m., and later released on a $500 bond.
Colts quarterback Peyton Manning is the first NFL quarterback to pass for 40,000 yards in any decade. Manning needed 19 yards to reach the milestone. He did it on a 5-yard completion to Pierre Garcon in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
Lions rookie third-round pick Derrick Williams replaced veteran Dennis Northcutt as the team’s No. 3 receiver. Williams assumed that role against the Seahawks and didn’t get any passes thrown his way. Schwartz wouldn’t say if the switch would continue into next week. “I don’t know. Derrick had done some good things and we wanted to get him on the field,” Schwartz said. “We were trying to feature a two-tight end (formation) and feature Casey (FitzSimmons) as that slot receiver because of some of the matchups he was able to present. It put them in a bind of whether they stayed ‘regular’ or went ‘nickel.’ We were able to run the ball effectively when they were in nickel.”
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Tye Hill looks to have earned the Falcons permanent starting left cornerback position. Hill looks to have the job locked up and is finally starting to live up to his potential. Drafted in the first round by the Rams, Hill was miserable in St. Louis, but now he joins the growing list of players that succeed when they leave the morbid atmosphere surrounding the depressing Rams.
Panthers WLB Thomas Davis injured his right knee in the loss at New Orleans, and teammates feared it could be serious. Davis, one of the team’s top players, missed a month of preseason with an MCL sprain in the same knee. “We’re hoping that it’s better than he expects it is,” SLB Na’il Diggs said. “Right now, all we can do is stay optimistic. Maybe it’s just a couple of weeks with an MCL or whatever.” Even though Landon Johnson is a capable backup, he doesn’t make the kind of explosive plays that Davis can make, and the Panthers’ defense would change dramatically without him.
Head coach Mike Singletary launched right into the post mortems of the 49ers’ 34-27 loss. He seemed particularly prickly when asked why the 49ers went with such a wide open offense against the Titans. “You’re asking me why I did it?” Singletary responded. “You’ve been asking me all week why I wouldn’t do it. Now you’re asking me why did I do it.” Matthew Barrows of the Sacramento Bee theorizes that Singletary never wanted to attempt 51 passes like the 49ers did Sunday, running the risk of turnovers that eventually killed the 49ers on Sunday.

Panthers RE Julius Peppers suffered an injury to his right hand and had a large wrap on it after the game. Peppers said he simply “fell on it” and shrugged off questions. He was held without a sack for the first time in a month and was credited with one tackle and one quarterback pressure.
