Pennetta advances to Carson final (AP)
Flavia Pennetta won the biggest semifinal of her career Saturday at the East West Bank Classic, defeating wild card Bethanie Mattek 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. The 26-year-old Italian will face either top-seeded Jelena Jankovic or No. 4 Dinara Safina in Sunday’s final. Jankovic can take over the No. 1 world ranking if she wins the tournament.
