Nalbandian wins Copa Argentina title (AP)
David Nalbandian, the top-ranked Argentine at No. 9 in the world, beat compatriot Juan Monaco 6-4, 7-5 on Sunday to the Copa Argentina final. Nalbandian also won the 2005 title at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club.

ATP suspends 2 for betting on matches (AP)

On Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, the ATP has suspended Italy's top player Potito Starace and Daniele Bracciali for betting on tennis matches. The 31st-ranked Starace was suspended for six weeks and ordered to pay a US$30,000 (20,800) fine, the Italian tennis federation said in a statement Saturday. Bracciali, ranked 258th, was banned for three months and fined US$20,000 (14,000). Both suspensions are effective Jan. 1, ruling them out of the Australian Open, which begins Jan. 14.

The ATP suspended Italians Potito Starace and Daniele Bracciali on Saturday for making bets — some as little as $7 — on tennis matches involving other players. The Italian tennis federation denounced the penalties by the governing body as an “injustice,” and the players said they have been made scapegoats.
